The distinguished practitioner of medicine and surgery, D. Alejandro Mackay, has just added one more surgical operation to the many he continues to perform with excellent results.

The difficult operation of tracheotomy, performed upon a child barely eighteen months old and in a condition in which saving him was all but impossible; an operation in which he was assisted by the well-known physician Don Rafael Lopez Hernandez, at whose initiative it was undertaken.

The satisfactory condition of the child, whom we have had occasion to see, moves us to congratulate the distinguished medical practitioner who, with exceptional assiduity and interest, contrived to save the unfortunate creature from certain death.

But there is more: yesterday the father of the patient, D. Francisco García Andivia, received a letter in which Sr. Mackay declined to accept fees of any kind.

The party concerned, Sr. Garcia Andivia, begs us to make public his immense gratitude towards the man who saved his son’s life with such sure judgement, and who acted thereafter with such unwonted generosity.

According to our information, this is not the only victim snatched from death by Sr. Mackay, nor his only act of disinterestedness, in the diphtheria epidemic which we may fortunately now consider past.
