A day trip to El Campanario Mine & Valverde

Today I took a trip to the Campanario Mine, then a quick visit to Valverde del Camino. I don’t know much about the Campanario Mine in the 19th century as the information is hard to find. I do have a reference to the mine made by the Frenchman Ernesto Deligny in his 1863 Historical Notes on the Cupreous Mines of the Sierra de Tharsis where he states that his acquaintance, the German Mr. Georg Rieken , was working the mines. There’ll be plenty more on these two pioneers at at later stage.

After visiting the old mining installations we headed to Valverde del Camino. In the photos you can see the “Casa Dirección” which is now the museum, and the old railway station which is now the School of Music. I will be going back shortly for a full report as it was a key player in the 19th century mining boom and there’s plenty more to explore.
