The Minister of Marine accompanied by his suite, landed here last evening, and was received with military honours. Enthusiastic crowds lined the streets, which were gaily festooned, and otherwise decorated for the occasion. The caravel Santa Maria is now moored oft this port. Her arrival was greeted with a salvo of artillery from all the foreign vessels in the port, and the subsequent appearance of a Mexican corvette was the signal for loud cheers for Columbus, Mexico and Spain.
The reproduction of the original vessel in which Columbus made his great voyage, with its small quaintly-fashioned hull, formed a curious contrast to the triumphs of modern skill as shown by the first-class cruiser Lepanto and other war vessels. The entire spectacle of the Santa Maria and her attendant convoy passing through the line of vessels in the bay of Cadiz was very fine, and was witnessed by an enormous crowd of people, who lined the walls and ramparts.
