Calañas

Population: 9,644
Judicial District: Valverde del Camino

A town with a station on the Zafra–Huelva railway line. The municipal capital consists of 616 buildings, arranged across several streets of average appearance and a square where the parish church and municipal offices are located.

This town has, in recent years, tripled its population due to the important mines of Zarza and Sotiel Coronada located within its territory.

There is a sanctuary with the image of Our Lady of the Flowers, before which it is said that Christopher Columbus once prayed.

Its trade, in general, is of some importance.

Campofrío

Population: 1,238
Judicial District: Aracena

A town situated on a small plain and surrounded by the sierras of Picota, Cumbres, Grana, Moya, and Morolla. The municipal capital consists of 250 buildings of modest construction, forming several well-paved and very clean streets.

Within its territory are the hamlets of La Majada, Vistas de Abajo, and Vistas de Arriba.

The land is of moderate quality, and its main wealth consists in the production of acorns and cork.

It has been a town since 5 April 1553, by royal charter granted by King Ferdinand VI.

Cartaya

Population: 5,217
Judicial District: Huelva

A coastal town on the third-class road from Gibraleón to Ayamonte. The municipal capital comprises 970 buildings of good appearance, of one and two storeys, distributed among several streets and a square called the Plaza de la Constitución.

It also has a customs house, two churches, a shipyard, and significant fishing activity. All kinds of boats are constructed using timber from local forests.

The land is highly productive in cereals and fruit. The lagoon known as La Bota lies within the municipality and is home to a large number of water birds.

It also has a third-class road and engages in trade in cloth, oil, and timber.
