(Translation and adaptation from La Guia de Huelva y Su Provincia 1892)
Among the institutions that bring honour to the city of Huelva, none is more deserving of recognition than the Floating Baths on the Estuary, established and maintained by the Sociedad de Amigos del País (Society of Friends of the Country).
Founded in the year 1852, this establishment serves both practical and philanthropic ends. The proceeds from its operation are dedicated not only to the upkeep of the baths themselves but also to the support of the Escuela de Bellas Artes (School of Fine Arts), the Escuela de Artes y Oficios (School of Trades and Guilds), and to charitable initiatives undertaken by the Society.
The structure comprises forty-two individual cubicles (casetas), each well-ventilated and maintained in a clean and orderly state. Every facility necessary for the comfort and hygiene of the bather is provided.
Transport from the quay to the baths is offered free of charge, in a vessel of proven safety and convenience, operated under the supervision of the Society.
Admission is set at one peseta per ticket, which permits access for one or two persons. For each additional person, a supplement of twenty-five céntimos is charged.
The Floating Baths continue to be a source of civic pride and public benefit, reflecting the industrious and enlightened spirit of the citizens of Huelva and the noble efforts of the Sociedad de Amigos del País.
