Huelva Recreation Club – 2nd Meeting in Hotel Colon

(Translation and adaptation of articles published in La Provincia)

December 28, 1889 – On the night of the 23rd the second meeting of the Huelva Recreation Club was held in the Salon de Chimeneas Hotel Colon.

The president Mr. C. Adam, and the secretary gave a reading of the minutes of the previous meeting and opened the voting for the Honorary Presidents, resulting in a unanimous decision for the following gentlemen.

The following propositions were made by Messers Morrison, Eduardo Diaz Jr., A. Lawson, Birchall, Crofts, Palin, Adam and supported by Messers Sundheim de la Cueva, G. Manito, Kirke, Morrison, Gough, Adam and Palin.

First: At the beginning of January a grand ball will be held in Hotel Colon.

Second: that in the office of Hotel Colon there should be a register book for members to put their names down for the lawn tennis court and for no more than an hour.

Third: To set up a commission to oversee the preparations for a Sports day at the beginning of February during the Carnaval.

Fourth: The Board of Directors will decide on the admission new members

Fifth: That we find a suitable premises for the club as soon as possible

Sixth: to give a vote of thanks to His Excellence the Governor for his attention and best wishes in favour of our Club.

Seventh: another vote of thanks to Mr. Guillermo Sundheim for generously offering the Club land for the practice of Lawn Tennis

Membership shall be 5 pesetas to join plus 2 months quota for current members and 10 pesetas plus 2 months quota for new members. Quotas shall be paid in advance on January 1, 1890

It is only left to add that all communications concerning the Huelva Recreation Club should be addressed to the Secretary, Mr. E. W. Palin in Concepcion, 18.
