December 20, 1889 – On Wednesday night we had our first meeting to form the “Huelva Recreation Club“. The attendance was numerous with a large turnout of our community members. There was also a good showing of the most distinguished local personages which goes to show the local interest in our sport and leisure activities.
Mr. Adam from the Huelva Gas Company Limited, who occupies the presidency of the club, eloquently set out the objectives of the club ; several gentlemen participated in the debate followed by a vote of the provisional Board of Directors, resulting in a unanimous decision for the following:

- Treasurer, Mr. A. Gough
- Secretary, Mr. E. W. Palin

We at the Huelva Gazette are delighted to do all we can to promote this laudable initiative to provide a range of healthy leisure activities for our community ; indeed, excursions have been proposed to visit the province, encouraging the practice of sport has been stated as a key initiative, musical evenings and dances will be arranged.
Take note that next Monday at half past eight in Hotel Colon “Salon de Chimeneas” there will be a follow up meeting to discuss other important matters so as to start the association activities as soon as possible in the New Year. We will surely keep our readers up to date on proceedings and decisions reached.
