Today, 19 October, the Gaceta de Madrid (No. 293) has officially published the royal decree granting city status to Huelva, conferred on 17 September by His Majesty King Alfonso XII.

The petition, dated 17 August and submitted by the Ayuntamiento of Huelva, set out compelling grounds for this distinction. It cited the town’s remarkable economic development driven by port activity, the need to foster public morale and civic pride, and the historical merit and industrious character of the people of Huelva.

This recognition marks an important milestone in the city’s progress and affirms its growing importance within the province and beyond.
