MADRID, Feb 10. – The king announced to Señor Zorrilla at eight o’clock this evening his resolution to abdicate. All the efforts of the Cabinet to dissuade his Majety have proved ineffectual.
The news has caused a profound sensation, but up to the present there is no agitation of a threatening character. The members of the Government will remain at their posts until the communication of the Royal message to the Cortes. After the Cortes has taken a resolution the Ministry will resign office.
Feb 11, 1 A.M. – In the Concress this evening Señor Figueroas proposed that the Chamber should declare itself permanent in order to effect an understanding with the Government, and to serve as a guarantee for the preservation of order.
A proposal that the President and fifty deputies should form a Permanent Committe was adopted.
The message announcing the King’s abdication will be read to the Cortes to-day.
It is expected that an Executive Commission of the Government will be formed which will proclaim a Republic.
Some groups of persons in the streets endeavoured to create a disturbance, but were dispersed without any conflict ensuing.
